Military service medals to be presented

10:19 pm on 15 October 2012

Thirty families in Wellington will be presented with military service medals on behalf of their deceased relatives on Monday afternoon.

Minister of Defence Jonathan Coleman will present the medals at a ceremony at Defence House.

The New Zealand Defence Service Medal recognises contribution of non-frontline military personnel in conflicts throughout the world since World War II.

The medal is emblazoned with the New Zealand coat of arms and its ribbon has the colours of the Army, Navy, Air Force and volunteer, territorial and reserve elements of the service.

It is awarded to people like engineers and military support personnel who have died since their service.
