Name suppression has lapsed for the man accused of murdering the Northland toddler Riley Osborne. He is Kyle Robert Skerten, 21, of Kerikeri.

Mr Skerten, who is unemployed, lived in the same house as the 16-month-old. Riley Osborne died on 23 December after being transported by helicopter to Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland on 19 December.

Post mortem results issued on Sunday show the toddler died as a result of significant head injuries, which left him blind and brain damaged.

A funeral service was held for Riley Osborne on Tuesday morning. Police say the extended family asked for details of the funeral to be kept private.

Mr Skerten also faces six methamphetamine-related charges, including the alleged supply of pseudoephedrine-based tablets and offering to supply methamphetamine. The drugs charges span a period from late October to December.
