Meridian Energy says Lake Pukaki - which accounts for 40% of the New Zealand's hydro-electric storage - is close to full.
Lake Tekapo is already overflowing.
Meridian says it is too early to tell whether this guarantees adequate supply for next winter, but the current levels are a considerable improvement on last year.
