The players left the field after two hours play and did not return.

The West Indies, having been asked to bat first, got through to 129 for 5 from 35.4 overs, with Ramnaresh Sarwan making 38, Xavier Marshall an unbeaten 29 and Chris Gayle 25.

Tim Southee took two wickets for 33 from 7.4 overs, while Dan Vettori, Kyle Mills and Mark Gillespie took a wicket each.
