Protesters greet PM in Christchurch

5:32 pm on 19 October 2012

The prime minister was met by protesters from Yaldhurst Model School, which faces being merged with another school, while at the opening of a manufacturing plant in Christchurch on Friday.

The school's parent teacher association president, Janine Cassidy, was among the 20 protesters who stood outside in wind and rain to fight for their school.

She says Yaldhurst is set to be one of the fastest-growing areas of Christchurch as city residents move into new subdivisions, and she can't understand why the school would be closed.

John Key says the Government is genuinely taking on the parents' concerns and he will personally take a look at information submitted in the consultation process before final decisions are made.
