Small victory claimed in housing campaign

The Mana Party claims a lull in removing state houses from an Auckland suburb is a reaction to a demonstration against a redevelopment project last week.

Seven people were arrested, including party leader Hone Harawira during a protest last Thursday night.

Housing New Zealand is moving more than 150 state houses from Glen Innes as part of a redevelopment project.

An agency spokesperson confirmed that no removals took place this week, but said that was planned and not in response to the arrests.

Mana Party vice president John Minto says the lack of action this week is a small victory for campaigners.
