Mother of casino kids not convicted

A woman who locked her five children in a van at the SkyCity casino was discharged without conviction on Tuesday.

The childrens' mother and father each pleaded guilty in the Auckland District Court to one charge of leaving a child under the age of 14 unsupervised.

The father was convicted and discharged and ordered to pay court costs.

The children, aged between 11 months and nine years, were discovered in a SkyCity carpark in February.

The parents have received permanent name suppression to protect the identities of the children.

Both have undergone counselling and Judge Grant Fraser told the mother the consequences of a conviction outweighed the gravity of her offending.
