Police say they will not charge a man who admitted approaching young girls in Red Beach, north of Auckland.

On two separate occasions last week, a nine-year-old and two girls aged 13 were approached by a man they did not know and offered a lift in a car. They all refused.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Batty says the embarrassed man contacted police after hearing about the incidents on the radio.

Mr Batty says the police believe the man had no criminal intent, but realises his actions could be seriously misunderstood.
