Israeli tennis player draws protest

A protest about the presence of an Israeli player at the ASB Tennis Classic is likely to result in tighter security on Thursday.

Shaheer Peer, who is through the quarterfinals, says her presence in Auckland has nothing to do with the fighting in Gaza.

Peer says she hopes the fighting will be over as soon as possible, not least because her brother, an army reservist, has been called up for service. She says she was in tears when she was told of her brother's call-up.
