Wellington Airport is to receive a multi-million dollar upgrade that will increase the size of its domestic terminal by nearly a third.
The terminal is to be upgraded and expanded at a cost of between $30 million and $40 million to cope with an increase in passenger numbers.
The southern end of the terminal will be extended by 35 metres, the southern pier will be revamped and a central screening point created for all passengers.
When the existing southern extension was opened in 1999 it catered for about 3.5 million passengers a year. That number has risen to 5.5 million and the airport is at full capacity at peak times.
The work is expected to be completed in 2015.
