Auckland's new $100 million public transport ticketing system was being introduced on the city's rail network on Saturday.
The upgraded Hop card was formally launched on Thursday and will eventually be extended to ferries and buses.
Auckland Transport says about 100 extra staff will be on duty during the first week to ensure the transition goes smoothly.
About 7500 Hop cards have already been purchased.
