Police seeking a man they believe fired a shot into a Gisborne house on Friday say he may still be armed, is considered dangerous.
They say the man, 33-year-old Warren Jacques Tarawa, should not be approached.
Police say a maroon Toyota people-mover pulled up at a Stout St address at about 2.30pm and the front-seat passenger fired a .22 calibre rifle at the house before the car drove away.
No one was hurt in the incident, but police say two children aged 15 months and 17 months were inside the house at the time.
The car was later found, and a man believed to be the driver was arrested and charged following a search by the Armed Offenders Squad.
The alleged driver appeared in the Gisborne District Court on Saturday charged with being a party to the unlawful discharge of a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He was remanded in custody and is due back in court on Monday.
