Salmon sales swim against the stream

The New Zealand King Salmon company says salmon sales are booming despite the recession.

Domestic sales for December for the Nelson-based company were nearly a third higher than for the previous period.

Chief executive Paul Steere says the weaker New Zealand dollar is also helping export sales, including a doubling of sales to Canada in 2008.

The company is seeking to add to its Marlborough Sounds fish farm space, with a resource consent application to convert a mussel farm.
