Police want to suspend the liquor licences of five licensed premises in central Whangarei.
Eight businesses were entered to see if they were complying with the Sale of Liquor Act.
Inspector Tracy Phillips says five of those places had security personnel who were not certified, allowed intoxicated people inside or did not provide substantial food.
She says the businesses were in breach of their licence conditions and police will be asking the Liquor Licensing Authority to suspend their licences.
Inspector Phillips said a customer in one bar was so intoxicated he could barely stand and was trying to conduct a strip dance in front of staff and patrons.
