Police in Wellington have charged two teenagers over an attack on an 82-year-old Wainuiomata man in his home last Tuesday.

Two males aged 14 and 18 were arrested and charged with aggravated burglary on Sunday after the police obtained warrants to search several properties.

Police have said the attack occurred after the resident, Jack Morrissey, answered a knock at his door at about 8pm on Tuesday.

They say he was hit on the head with a wooden baton and money was taken from his house.

Police say information from the Wainuiomata community has led to the arrests.

The two suspects are being held in custody and will appear in the Lower Hutt Youth Court on Monday.
