Anxiety among union members at sale delays

The Rail and Maritime Transport Union says a delay in the sale of KiwiRail's workshops in Dunedin is making members very anxious.

KiwiRail put the workshops at Hillside on the market in May this year, expecting to sell them by August.

On Friday, the company indicated that it expected to conclude a sale in coming weeks.

Union organiser John Kerr said anxiety is building as Christmas approaches. Several members have left and many others are asking whether they should be taking other jobs.

Mr Kerr said the union cannot do much but keep asking for KiwiRail to update employees as soon as possible.
