Woman rescued after river plunge on mobility scooter

A woman has been rescued from the Waikato River after she plunged 20 metres from a walkway into the water on her mobility scooter.

Emergency services were called to the eastern bank of the rive about 1.30pm on Tuesday after the woman fell.

Police say when they arrived, a group of secondary school children and members of the public were keeping her head above the water.

The woman has been taken to Waikato Hospital for a medical assessment.

Police have not yet established how she fell.
