Cable revival promise 'nothing to get excited about'

Some IT experts say Kim Dotcom's promise to revive the bid to get a second high-speed broadband cable between New Zealand and the United States is nothing to get excited about.

Mr Dotcom tweeted at the weekend that he will relaunch the Pacific Fibre project which was abandoned this year when Pacific Fibre could not get financial backing.

Internet New Zealand chief executive Vikram Kumar says because of his legal problems in America, the US would block any plan Mr Dotcom has financially backed, so it would never work.

Technology expert Donald Clark says it is great the debate about a second broadband cable has been reignited, but there should be no excitement until something happens.

Pacific Fibre chairman Sam Morgan has said he hopes to talk to Mr Dotcom soon.
