About 70 firefighters were called in to fight a large blaze at a supermarket in Warkworth, north of Auckland.
Crews from Auckland and Whangarei battled the blaze which started in the rear of the Four Square supermarket just before 8pm on Saturday.
The Fire Service says it appears they have managed to save the building and most of the stock.
Police guarded the site overnight and fire investigators were due to examining the scene on Sunday.
