Science Challenges ad campaign launched

An advertising campaign has been launched asking the public to decide what scientists should be focussing on.

Over the next three weeks, television advertisements for the Great New Zealand Science Project will encourage people to submit their ideas about what subjects should be included in the Government's new National Science Challenges initiative.

About 10 of those ideas will be chosen by the Cabinet and an expert panel as the overarching goals of publicly funded science, and $60 million of new funding will be allocated to the projects over the next four years.

Science and Innovation Minister Steven Joyce says public involvement in the process will boost the profile of science and encourage more young people to consider a career in science.
