Two Masterton schoolboys have suffered broken teeth and moderate injuries in a late night attack.

Police say the brothers, aged 11 and 12, were walking along Bannister Street with two others when a 17 year old boy reportedly came out of a house and hit them with a tree branch shortly after midnight.

Two boys managed to flee, but the brothers could not get away.

They were found bleeding not far away and taken to hospital.

Police later arrested an older boy and charged him with assault with a weapon.

The investigation is continuing, with officers saying they believe other people at the house were involved in the attack.
