Chief district court judge to review training of community magistrates

8:13 pm on 13 November 2012

The chief district court judge is reviewing the training of community magistrates, following the killing of a woman by her partner, who was on bail.

The woman was stabbed by the man on Friday 9 November at a house in Manurewa in South Auckland.

The man's body was later found under a rail bridge and the police say his death is not considered suspicious.

Director of community engagement for district courts, Sonja de Friez, says the man had been granted bail on the strict condition of not contacting or associating with the woman.

She says the processes surrounding tragic events such as these will be reviewed by the chief district court judge.

Ms de Friez says the judge will look at the legal training and professional development of community magistrates.
