Milford Road closed

9:07 pm on 13 November 2012

The Milford Road is closed again Tuesday evening, due to a risk of rockfalls above the entrance to the Homer Tunnel, near where a contractor was killed while clearing another slip last month.

The Transport Agency says rocks are suspended in snow above the western portal, and will drop onto the road as it melts.

Geotechnical experts say it is not possible to predict how many rocks could fall or when, and the road is closed until further notice to protect the public.

A 65-year-old man was killed on 19 October in an accident with a compressed air hose while working to clear the road of slips blocking the road.
