A businessman fainted and collapsed in Kaitaia District Court on Thursday while appearing on charges of indecent assaults against boys.
Former Kaitaia Business Association vice president and Mormon church elder Daniel Taylor, 37, was appearing on 14 charges of indecent assaults against four boys, aged between 12 - 16.
Five additional charges involving another boy were laid in court on Thursday.
The accused lurched forward in the dock just as the judge was pointing out that the maximum penalty he could face is 10 years in prison.
He was helped to sit, but appeared to collapse a few minutes later and had to be carried out by two police officers.
He is yet to enter a plea to any of the charges.
Relatives offered to monitor him if he was granted bail, but it was refused and he was remanded in custody
