Eftpos facilities for taxi companies are not operating.
Wellington Combined Taxis says eftpos has been working intermittently since 8pm on Thursday.
Chief executive Lynne Hayman, says the outage is caused by a data network issue and the companies who provide the data are trying to solve the problem.
She says the problem is inconvenient for passengers and the company apologises for delays.
Both Paymark and ANZ Bank, which operate the eftpos networks, say their systems are operating normally.
Vodafone says the issue is caused by a broken link carrying data traffic between Vodafone's networks and that of Cadmus, one of its customers.
Vodafone says it is doing all it can to get the data back online.
