Timaru police want any information on the movements of a nine-year-old boy who was admitted to hospital on Thursday.
They say the boy was found near the Holme Station Bridge in the town about 4 pm, injured and distressed.
He was wearing an Oceanview Heights School uniform that consists of a dark blue polar fleece, dark blue shorts and a teal green polo shirt.
The police say they have been unable to speak to the boy, who was a long way from his school.
They want to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour around Oceanview Heights School and the intersection of Selwyn and Hobbs Streets, as well as the bridge.
