A motorcyclist is dead after a crash on the Takaka Hill on Friday evening.
Rescue services say the crash, involving a motorcycle and another vehicle, happened about 6pm on State Highway 60, west of Nelson.
The motorcyclist died at the scene.
The vehicle driver and a passenger were flown by helicopter to Nelson Hospital.
The road is closed to heavy traffic, with a detour through a nearby paddock open to light vehicles only.
A crash investigator is at the scene and the police hope to have one lane of the road open to heavy traffic later in the evening.
