Beware of strangers selling generators

3:13 pm on 27 January 2009

Tauranga police are warning people to beware of some Irish tourists who are travelling around the country selling generators.

They say the group has been cold-calling members of the public and selling them over-priced or inadequate generators.

Senior Sergeant Rob Glencross says it was only when the purchasers tried their new equipment that they found they'd been tricked.

Police have received complaints from South Auckland and Waikato and they now believe the group is in the Tauranga area.

There have also been recent reports of similar activity in Australia.
