Cyclist killed after colliding with truck

3:59 pm on 19 November 2012

A male cyclist has died after a collision with a truck outside Dunedin Hospital.

Senior Sergeant Kelvin Lloyd says the driver has been spoken to, but it is too early to say how the crash occurred.

Mr Lloyd says serious crash investigators are at the scene on Cumberland Street and police are working to identify the cyclist.

Mr Lloyd says the crash may have been caused when the cyclist had to swerve to miss another vehicle.

"There is some suggestion that a vehicle on the side of the road may have opened a door as the cyclist went past."

He appealed for witnesses to the crash, at 10am on Monday, to come forward.

Detours were in place around Cumberland Street.
