Another go at restarting trade talks

6:00 am on 28 January 2009

Some of the world's key trade ministers will meet in Davos in Switzerland this week in another effort to restart the stalled world trade talks.

New Zealand Trade Minister Tim Groser was flying to Switzerland on Tuesday evening to attend the forum, and while in Europe he'll also tackle the European Union over its plans to reinstate export subsidies for its dairy farmers.

He says it would be a mistake if countries started putting up barriers to trade in response to the world economic crisis. Everybody knows that approach will make the crisis worse, he says.
