Police investigating a fatal stabbing in South Dunedin said on Tuesday evening that a post-mortem was being carried out on the victim.
But they say it appears the 21-year-old died at the scene as a result of multiple stab wounds, after an incident at a Bayview Rd house.
A 50-year-old man with self-inflicted stab wounds remains in a stable condition in hospital.
Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident, which appears to have occurred after an argument between the couple.
However anyone with more information is asked to contact the Dunedin police, particularly the five people who called 111.
Witnesses told police the woman was being chased down the street.
