SPCA too late to find evidence of movie mistreatment

The SPCA says it was called in too late to find any evidence of animal mistreatment during production of the Hobbit movie.

Peta, an international animal rights organisation, says 27 animals died because of mistreatment.

SPCA spokesperson Robyn Kippenberger told Morning Report it found no evidence that animals were mistreated, but the inspectors were called in long after the event.

She said the SPCA was informed by an anonymous letter on 6 November, but the accusations were about incidents that had happened between January - August last year.
