8:49 am on 2 February 2009

The lawyer for Stephen McDonald, accused of taking part in a high-speed chase and shoot-out with police, says his client is likely to have further charges laid against him.

The 50-year-old already faces 29 charges in relation to the incident, which saw police mistakenly shoot an innocent bystander, Halatau Naitoko, 17.

Stephen McDonald's lawyer, Roger Chambers, says he has received a letter from the Crown advising him more charges may follow, but is unaware of their exact nature.

His client is accused of using a firearm against police, carrying a firearm with intent, reckless driving and aggravated robbery among others.

Mr Chambers says if additional charges are to be laid it will be done formally at his clients' next appearance at the Auckland District Court this week.

Meanwhile, Mr McDonald's alleged accomplice Margaret Mann, 19, is to reappear at the Waitakere District Court on Wednesday on three charges relating to events that day.
