Schools invoicing for extra payroll work

7:52 am on 30 November 2012

Thirty two high schools are invoicing the Ministry of Education on Friday for extra work caused from problems with the Novopay payroll system.

Secondary Principals' Association president Pat Walsh says the latest total cost is $125,000.

But he says that figure is likely to rise as only 32 out of 362 secondary schools have given invoices to him.

Most of the invoices are due to extra work done by payroll officers and accountants who have been trying to fix problems under the novopay system.

A list of invoices will be presented to Education Secretary Lesley Longstone.

Ministry of Education group manager, Rebecca Elvy issued this statement to Morning Report:

''The ministry has consistently said it would reimburse school staff who have incurred bank or other costs due to payroll errors and it has offered to reimburse staff travel costs to a series of roadshows held recently.

''It hasn't ruled out compensation but our priority at the moment is to fix any problems and to help schools through the end-of-year process.''
