Two people charged over an armed offenders squad callout at Palmerston in North Otago on Monday have been remanded in custody.

A 20-year-old woman and a man, 25, from Palmerston North, were granted interim name suppression when they appeared at Oamaru District Court on Tuesday.

The pair yelled white supremacist slogans before their court appearance. The woman called out "Oi Oi Oi" as she was led from the police van and the man yelled "Sieg Heil", "White Power" and swore at media.

They face six charges of shooting at police officers, one of failing to stop for police and one charge of stealing a $10,000 Land Rover.

Both were granted interim name suppression and were remanded in custody by consent until 18 February.

Two children, aged three and 18 months, were with the accused at the time of the incident and have been placed in the care of Child, Youth and Family.
