The Serious Crash Unit is investigating a crash in south Taranaki that killed two motorcycle riders and injured several others on a charity motorbike ride on Saturday.
The riders were taking gifts to children.
Police have named the dead as Kelly Richard Reardon, 40, of Waitara, and Gordon Thomas McKay, 68, of New Plymouth.
Witnesses said a van overtook two cars stopped near an intersection on State Highway Three in Normanby and hit the motorbike riders coming around a sweeping bend. Nine riders went down.
Five people were taken to hospital, two of whom are in a serious condition.
