Gale warning for Hawke's Bay

10:02 pm on 2 December 2012

MetService says a severe weather warning is in place for Hawke's Bay with strong winds expected to continue until early Monday morning.

And it says heavy rains are forecast for the same period in parts of the North Island from Taranaki to Waikato including Waitomo, Taumaranui and across to the Tongariro National Park.

A severe weather forecaster Sarah Garlick says the winds can be a danger to motorists, as well as causing damage to trees and power lines.

She says the wind and rain should ease from about 2am on Monday but will return later in the week.
