Credit ratings for the Taranaki and Otago District Health Boards have deteriorated in credit reviews for 2008, released today.

Health Minister Tony Ryall released the figures, which are part of a Crown Health Financing Agency briefing, on Thursday.

The briefing says Otago District Health Board is operating at significant deficit, while Taranaki District Health Board risks further deficit.

However, credit ratings for the Northland, Auckland, Wairarapa, and Nelson-Marlborough DHBs improved from 2007.

Mr Ryall also released a briefing from District Health Boards New Zealand which has warned that a larger annual increase in funding is needed to sustain the sector.
