State Highway 2 between Wairoa and Gisborne has partially reopened after a stock truck rolled.
The crash which occurred about 10am on Wednesday, blocking the section of highway as contractors and police worked to remove dead animals from the road.
Light vehicles were able to use the route on Wednesday afternoon but heavy vehicles still needed to take a long winding detour along Tiniroto Road.
The truck's driver and passenger escaped the crash with one of the pair receiving only minor injuries.
