Parts of New Zealand are expected to reach high temperatures over the weekend, as the hot weather causing a heatwave in Australia crosses the Tasman Sea.
MetService says a northwest air flow will cause temperatures of around 34 degrees in Canterbury on Saturday and Sunday.
Ashburton was initially forecast to reach 37, although that has been revised downwards to 34.
Temperatures of 42 degrees are forecast for Sydney on Saturday and 43 for Melbourne.
