A friend of a woman left scarred by her surgeon says the deaths of two other patients might have been avoided if official action had been taken sooner.

Police and the Medical Council are investigating after two patients of surgeon Michael Parry at Wairau hospital in Blenheim, died on the operating table between January 2011 and May this year.

AdeePitcon-Mason knew one of the patients who died, Rachel Riddell, and , Angie Webber, who had her bile duct cut in two when she went to have her gall bladder removed in 2010.

Ms Pitcon-Mason says she raised concerns about a pattern of incidents involving Mr Parry early on, but he was not stopped from practising surgery until June this year.
