A trial of the first mass-produced, new-generation electric vehicle to be available in New Zealand was launched in Wellington on Tuesday.
The Mitsubishi iMiEV is a four-door hatchback with a maximum speed of 130 km/h and a driving range of up to 160 kilometres.
It is a joint venture between Mitsubishi and Meridian Energy - the first time an automotive company and an electricity company have joined forces in New Zealand in this way.
Mitsubishi New Zealand says fuel costs of its new car are a third of the price of a petrol vehicle.
The trial runs until late March and will involve demonstrations around the country.
