Police want to charge for vetting service

5:00 pm on 11 December 2012

The police want to charge the public for vetting services, including checks made when a person applies for a job.

A consultation document has been released on the proposal, and the public has until March to make submissions.

The police say any fees for vetting services would be reasonable, and some exemptions may be considered, such as for registered charities. The proposal is for a two-tier system, with a charge of $5-$7 for a standard vetting check and $10-$14 for urgent checks.
