Blanket Man's death confirmed as heart attack

The Wellington Coroner has found that the well-known Wellington homeless man Ben Hana, also known as Blanket Man, died of a heart attack in hospital in January.

The coroner, Garry Evans, said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Hana's death, and he has accepted the findings of the police report and a post-mortem.

Mr Evans said Mr Hana suffered from swelling in his heart's left ventricle and had mild myocarditis because of his diet, which consisted largely of alcohol.

He says there is no possible criticism of the medical and mental health assistance Mr Hana was given by various community agencies and health professionals over the years he lived in Wellington.
