Arrest after assault on school principal

A man has been arrested in connection with an assault on a school principal in Upper Hutt.

Police were called to St Joseph School just after 9am on Wednesday following an incident in the principal's office.

They say the principal needed medical attention for cuts and bruises to his head.

The police say a 39-year-old Lower Hutt man who has family members at the school was charged with injuring with intent to injure.

He will appear in Upper Hutt District Court next week. Police say further charges could be laid.
