A Kaipara man has been charged with manslaughter after a crash last month that killed one friend and injured five others.

Samuel Guest, 22, appeared in the Dargaville District Court Thursday on one charge of manslaughter and five of driving with excess blood alcohol causing injury.

He was the driver of a car with six other young men on board which crashed on a bend in Pouto Road and landed upside down in a ditch on 11 November.

Antony Matich, 19, died at the scene, and two others were flown to hospital with serious injuries. Three others suffered moderate injuries.

Mr Guest has been bailed to reappear in court in January.
