A dangerous inmate on the run from Auckland Prison at Paremoremo has been caught in the main street of Hamilton early on Friday.
Arai Whaakari Hema, convicted of attempted rape and attempted murder, escaped while working outside the prison's main fence last month.
Police spokesperson Andrew McAlley says Hema's luck ran out on Hamilton's Victoria Street shortly after midnight.
He says Hema was dressed up and apparently in enjoying a night out on the town, when he was stopped.
