NZ ready to provide more aid to Samoa

The New Zealand Government is ready to provide more help to Samoa following tropical cyclone Evan.

At least four people are dead eight others are missing, including five crew members of a fishing boat.

On Saturday, the Government announced it was giving $NZ50,000 to replenish relief supplies and sending an RNZAF Orion to survey the damage from the air and search for the missing fishermen.

Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully said constant liaision is being kept with the Samoan government.

A state of disaster was declared in Samoa on Thursday.

Prime minister Tuilaepa Sailele said there could be food shortages next year because of the destruction of crops.
