Two pilots of an Air New Zealand flight hijacked by a woman last year are to receive bravery awards.

Dion McMilland and co-pilot Ross Haverfield, from Nelson, will receive awards from the International Airlines Association for their actions in keeping passengers safe during the mid-air drama in February last year.

Mr McMillan says he is pleased to receive the award.

He says he cannot say much about the incident, ahead of the trial for the accused woman, but a difficult situation turned out well.

Asha Abdille, 34, is accused of hijacking the flight and stabbing the pilots and a passenger.

She will be tried in Christchurch in September.
