An escaped prisoner who was at large for three days is back in custody.
Bryce Storm Hughes, 33, who walked away from a working party outside Springhill Prison in North Waikato on Wednesday. He was supervised by five instructors at the time.
Hughes was serving a sentence of almost three years for wounding with intent to injure and was the first prisoner to escape from Springhill since it opened in 2007.
He was arrested in the East Auckland suburb of Bucklands beach at 10.30pm on Friday.
He will appear in the Manukau District Court on Saturday on a charge of escaping custody.
